Dark Corners

The unexplored darkness in you,
the kind that festers,
rancid in the corners of the mind,
shoved there after years.
That darkness.

Provokes the darkness that lies in me.
Known, explored,
Still aching for breath,
a torpid animal.

My darkness stirs and snarls when caged,
blocked in by other's expectations.

Your darkness provokes the darkness in me.

I'm tumbling into prickly, familiar territory
Where I thought I conquered it all,
exposed hard truths surface.
There are trails still uncharted,
lessons still await to be learned,

in the dark corners of my mind.
