A rat no more – a poem

Here these ambling rats turn,

Run, walk, sprint down halls, turn

Convulsing in the hectic insanity of an obsidian maze

Compelled by some outside master

A myriad of belching faces and voices

Enjoining to a cacophonous chorus of madness

Leaping, quarreling, hissing

At each other, fueled by the false pretense of ambition

Tearing toward a transitionary end goal

Dare to stop amid the conjoining crowd

Chew through ebony walls with a will of stone

To be freed from that multi-faced specter of a thousand motives

Gnaw through darkness and mob

Until light shimmers and quakes in rivulets of choice

Another way, free from the comfort of chaos

A rat no more
